Hi all, my BraillePlus has malfunctioned and I can't recover it from the rescue partition of the hard disc. Does this mean that I am basically screwed?
Thanks,
Nathan Bullock. I will accept any suggestions from you all on what to do.
Yes it does. The braille Plus has been discontinued and no repairs are being made by the manufacturer anymore. and there's nothing you can do at this point, because all pointers indicate that some part of your hard drive has failed. you can't reallly do anything with it anymore. Sorry.
Hmmm, I wonder if it would be possible to just replace the drive or just take it apart?
Don't dismantle it yet. Are you sure you've reflashed correctly. The steps are
1. Hold the reset button (near the battery) for five seconds.
2. Keep it down, and hold down the star key.
3. When you feel two vibrations, let up the reset button, but keep pressing star.
4. Another vibration means that you can let up star.
5. Wait about ten minutes.
If it's not back by then, just say so. There might be a way.
Oh, crap. I'll have to try it. It's a tricky procedure. Maybe I didn't reflash correctly?
Please keep us updated on how it goes. Would you still be willing to sell it if you can get it to work? If so, how much would you charge?
I think that if the reflash really fails, there is a somewhat tricky procedure for regressing it back to software 1.0.26 (2007) then upgrading it again in stages. We will have to see. Make sure to do the reflash using those particular instructions. Other ways don't work.
